Suggestions leading up to the Day of Shoot: Time to Shine
Preparations The Week Before
• Try on your outfits to see if you’re comfortable wearing them
• Don’t get a sunburn or have visible tan lines; if you have tan lines, please select clothing that covers them.
• Get a massage, or a facial; or both to ensure that you are completley relaxed.
• Drink plenty of water daily
Day/Night Before
• Make sure your fingernails are clean and freshly polished
• Get a good night’s slip
• Polish shoes
• Try on outfits to ensure bra straps or tan lines don’t show
• Skirt too short? Wear bike shorts underneath
• Remove all fabric “pills” and repair all holes in clothing
Day of Photoshoot
• Brush and floss your teeth
• Remove bulky items in pockets (phones, keys)
• Check to make sure your clothes are stain free
• Iron your clothes
• Remove hair ties from wrists
What to Bring To Your Photoshoot:
• Matte Chap-stick
• Snacks & drinks for kids
• Diapers & wipes for babies
• Oil blotting face sheets
• Children’s favorite toy
• Lint roller
Style & Accessorize for the Shoot
SOME “WEAR THIS, NOT THAT” SUGGESTIONS:
WEAR THIS!
• Clothing should compliment shooting location (i.e., no high heals on a beach)
• Dress for the season
• Layers work well for outfit variety
• Select clothing that you’re comfortable wearing
• If you wear glasses, bring a pair of non-glare lenses
• Select a color palette
• Jewel tones are best for Fall sessions; pastels are best for Summer
• Play with textures — i.e. satins, silks
• Accessorize with classic jewelry
• Flowy skirts or dresses
• For family sessions, you don’t need to wear identical coordinated colors, but it’s nice for everyone to have an article of clothing be from the same color palette to tie things together
• Accentuate your best feature
• Smiles never go out of style
NOT THAT!
• No shiny lipstick or lip-gloss (flash reflects off it)
• Busy patterns (i.e. houndstooth)
• Strapless dresses or tops
• Sneakers
• Bulky watches and / or jewelry
• Fluorescent or neon colors
• Flip flops
• Wrinkled clothing
• All black or all white attire
• Mini-skirts
• Low-cut, plunging necklines
• No bows or bow-ties for kids if they aren’t used to wearing them
• Thick textured underclothing as the texture or pattern could show through
• If you don’t love “it” or feel comfortable, don’t wear “it”
